I've heard there are free pacakges you can use to create M4B files, but I use Markable which you have to purchase (maybe $25?) someone else has suggested a package called AVS. The M4B file will play in the Audible app (at 1x speed), as well as iBooks, Bookmobile, etc. Like Specs, I think the best thing to do with the MP3 files once you've downloaded them to your computer is is to convert them to an M4B file (which Apple and Audible both treat as a book), then import the M4B into iTunes, and sync it to your device.
